Last night I had the pleasure of attending Mike Hough`s EP "Lost In Love" listening party hosted by the MOBO awards, at a very inmate setting at Sanctum Soho Hotel, I decided to bring along one of my best friends Dennise Nartey-Grant who got to experience the whole event with me.
He was introduced to the stage by the lovely Kanya King who is the founder of the MOBO awards, she firstly talked about their partnership which gives independent artist a platform to showcase their raw talents and mentoring them as they move forward with their career - providing a solid foundation of support for these artist. She went on to introduce Mike, who came on stage and talked about his growth over the years - finding his true voice in this music industry and not degrading his character to fit in, which is one of the hardest things to do in this industry as it has a narrow minded idea of what a superstar is and will mold you into something you`re not to see you be successful but it`s not real success.
It was refreshing to hear him speak on that and let his fans know that he appreciates them for holding him down for all these years and that he can`t wait for them to hear his highly anticipated EP "Lost In Love", he went on to perform a few of the songs off the project backed up by musician Matthew Smith and vocalist Juliet Hudson.
He put his heart and soul into every second of his time performing for us, his voice exudes passion and he himself is immersed in his craft which he has honed to absolute perfection and he displayed so much honesty especially on "Letter To Myself" where he talked about embracing the person he is and not changing to fit any box. His vocal delivery was so raw as he showcased the emotional connection in his songs and displayed alot of growth.
Afterwards he thanked the crowd and went onto take pictures with them and engage with them more on a personal level, while the whole EP played in the background. We got the chance to talk a little bit and I had to let him that he has blown us away with his performance and the EP sounded absolutely amazing and he is gonna be a huge artist in the near future and he was so appreciative, humble and friendly with it all.
You can pre-order "Lost In Love" on iTunes which is slated to be released on July 20th.
