Last year I collaborated with photographer Petrina to style two photo shoots for a "TopShop" project/task that featured two different themes which were colour blocking and punk chic. We sat down and talk about themes till we were all on the same page and agree on what we were going to do to get great amazing results. We went on to select a model called Gloria who has experience with modelling and embodied all the elements of what a great model is, she is 6ft and skinny and has great confidence and skills.
Adding her to the project allowed us to move forward with the project with drive, passion and confidence, knowing that we all excited to see how the final outcome would be. We exchanged information so we can go back and forth during the weeks before the shoots and took pictures of items that we could use in the shoots.

• Researched images related to themes and selected clothing that would go with them and express the mood and feel.
• We arrived super early with all the items: Jewellery, clothing, shoes, bags, hats, fur coat, gloves, shirts, skirts, shorts, glass.
• Got the model ready by firstly putting make up on her and then styling her hair up.
• We laid out the clothing and jewellery to see which ones would match for each look and showcase the mood of the themes.
• During out the shoots we would fix her up when clothing would unravel.
• Helped with the model with her poses so she could showcase the clothing and capture the feeling.
• Kept the environment upbeat and swiped ideas of different clothing that would work well on the model and also made the model feel comfortable and we were all committed to a project.
Colour Blocking:
We had bright clothing that complemented each other and worked amazingly well with the red background and our model showcased an amazing range as she would switch it up with each picture and showcased her bubbly personality.
Punk Chic:
After the first shoot we learned a lot that we applied on the second shoot but this one had a very mood and look, we were going for a very aggressive tone and look which was heavily inspired by Punk music. We selected clothing that featured dark colours and actually showcased the mood of theme. The model had to switch it up for this one; it was like about displaying a warm-friendly mood but more about displaying a rock and roll attitude.
What We Learned: We got to learn about the industry while working in it as we displayed everything that we had learned about styling and we also worked with a very talented photographer who inspired us throughout the process to give our all and be fully committed to the project. Since we have never worked together we were able to build a great working relationship which saw us pushing each other to deliver amazing work. We also got the chance to learn about the photography side of it such as the focus, lighting, setting and positioning.
