Being Unapologetically Me

I`m slowly approaching the age of 25 years old, which is an age that I never thought I would reach for obvious reasons, "a black life nowadays gets shot down like it`s nothing" but I want to take this time to reflect on my growth and overcoming fear of becoming myself. When I was younger I always knew deep down that I was different from the rest of the kids in my class but  fear of self acceptance was heavy as hell on my heart that I had to hide deeper and deeper within myself that I become someone who was extremely numb.

When I turned 15 I moved to London which opened my world to wider range of people and cultures that forced me to break down the walls of fear and start being myself, mainly because I found more people like me who actually gave zero fucks about what others had to say about them being themselves, coming from a heavily religion background (most black churches stay on some negative shit, especially when you`re gay ) that was powerful thing for me to see. From that moment on wards I`ve embraced everything about me fully, because only I can be myself, (and only you can be yourself) and by trying to be someone else is robbing yourself from living your truth and it`s truly sad that many of us are constantly trying to be someone else or a different version of ourselves. Because isn’t it always, always, always to please someone other than ourselves: a boyfriend/girlfriend, our parents, the cool kids, society?

Anyone who doesn`t accept you as you are doesn`t deserves to be in your life period, life is way too short not to be yourself and live it out apologetically yourself.

"You will always be too much of something for someone: too big, too loud, too soft, too edgy. If you round out your edges, you lose your edge. Apologize for mistakes. Apologize for unintentionally hurting someone — profusely. But don’t apologize for being who you are."
