While the music industry has been impacted by many changes from the many ways that people consume music to the way , it hasn`t stopped people yearning quality music that moves them to their core and gives them a space to be free and express themselves to the fullest.
Missy Misdemeanor Elliott is one of those artists, who worked her ass off to get where she is and came on the music mission with a clear mission of changing the face of music and she surely did that, time after time whenever she dropped an project and whenever she worked with other artists, she was able to bring out the best out of them and create ART. She worked icons like Janet Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and many others that went on to be icons in their own right as well as herself.
She never fitted into the mold of what the industry thought a superstar should look and sound like but she didn`t give a fuck and boldly and fearlessly went into it, knowing that she has some special and the world was ready to see it all. That kind of bravery saw her paving a lane for herself to fully express her creativity and also inspiring others to do the same.
"Everything from the way she looked to what she was talking about to the way she delivered that music and what she represented in terms of being nonconforming, not looking like the other female rappers of the day — I think all of those elements were the perfect lightning in a bottle. The way she rode that beat, both lyrically and with her delivery, was very, very different from everything else that we were hearing."- Mona Scott Young
And earned herself 5 Grammy awards along the way and has 6 platinum albums under her belt, which is simply amazing especially for an artist like her, who has never had it easy at all but all so deserving of all of her success and her flowers. "She's the first female rapper to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, was the first rapper in the Songwriter's Hall of Fame, has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and headlined sold-out tours. "
She`s so fucking legendary and truly the Queen of originality with a futuristic club-oriented sound that offered alot of people escapism from their own reality and her visuals always pushed the boundaries of visual art, with a mixture of technology, sci-fi, fantasy and comic book references. And Elliott has such a great sense of humour and she has really stayed true to herself over the years.
And her influence today is still felt and seen in many artist who grew up on her like Tyler The Creator, Doechii, Lizzo, Cardi B,Chloe Bailey, Doja Cat, Solange, Jazmine Sullivan and many of her peers have spoken about her impact on them.
"Missy taught us that hip-hop is not confined to a specific sound. It's a playground, and you can bring any toy you want. Her fearlessness inspired me to be unapologetically myself." -Megan Thee Stallion
"Missy's ability to blend genres and create something entirely new is mind-blowing. It made me realize that hip-hop is a canvas, and you can paint whatever picture you want on it."- Tyler, the Creator
"Missy showed me that you don't have to fit into a box. You can be yourself and still dominate the game."- Rico Nasty
"Missy made me realize that there are no limits in hip-hop. You can rap about anything, experiment with any sound, and as long as it's authentic, it works."- Denzel Curry
"Missy's music videos were like a visual feast. The creativity, the imagination—she set the bar high. Watching her videos made me want to create visually stunning content that goes beyond the expected."- Tierra Whack
