Pop music will always get mainstream media coverage and playtime over any genre but the quality and heart ain`t there anymore but I won`t waste this pop pointing out it`s flaws but I`ve put together a a little list of albums which helped to shape and define pop music throughout the years, i call it "GYOPM" which stands for Golden Years Of Pop Music.
Nelly Furtado – "Loose": After her second album "Folklore" received a lukewarm response she took a break from the music industry and had a baby, years and years past so she had to rethink new strategy of re-introducing herself and step out her comfort zone. Nelly teamed up with legendary hip-hop producer Timbaland and created a masterpiece of an album called "Loose" which saw her completely arriving on the music scene as the artist she was suppose to be. While the album immediately cut a very striking line between old fans and new fans, it didn`t disappoint as it still had elements of her first two albums but it offered a slicker production work and hooks that you can actually listen to and remember, "Loose" does what any good pop album is supposed to, capture the public's attention.
Justin Timberlake – "Futuresex/Lovesounds": After breaking away from NSync, Justin craved a solid solo career as he delivered three amazing albums that all had a great music impact but I would say his second album "Futuresex/Lovesounds" saw him breaking new ground and he matured both sexually and musically under the tutelage of producer Timbaland, everytime they come together they create magic. The album is slick and Justin finally proved himself to be a great solo act that will be a music legend in due time.
Britney Spears - "Blackout": This album came at such a low point in her personal life, Spears going out in public looking a wreck, flashing her vagina, shaving her head and losing both of her children but even through all that she managed to create one the great pop albums of all time and her best work to date, not saying her other albums were not amazing but this managed to top all of them.
"Blackout" saw her teaming up with Pharrell, Timbaland's protegé Danja and the production duo Bloodshy and Avant and many others who came together to create this top-notch album that showed quite clearly how innovative Britney can be when she lets loose; this album is probably as close to a portrait of her life at the time as she's gotten but I have to say I`m happy that her life is back on track and she is in a good place.
