The legendary music iconic Missy Elliott was finally awarded her well over due Micheal Jackson Vanguard award for all of her hard work throughout the past two decades. Her visual art truly represents what the award stands for, as she has consistently deliver visuals that push the boundaries of music and showcases her creativity fully and they move people to the core.
The award couldn't have came at such a better time, with her being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and also receiving an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music and now she`s the FIRST female rapper to ever received Vanguard award, which is something she has wanted for years and to finally get sure meant alot for her.
She set the stage on fire with a performance of her iconic hits that include “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly”, “Get Ur Freak On”, “Work It”, “Pass that Dutch”, and “Lose Control”, as well as her latest single “Throw it Back”. She delivered a performance that will go down in history as she had so many costume changes and creative elements at play that added to the high energy dancing and the transition from one song to the next was so smooth and slick.
And having Cardi B present the award to her spoke volumes, seeing artists of this generation embracing and celebrating those who paved way for them in this beautifully manner was simply everything. And I love the fact Cardi B`s introduction was full of personality and her love for Missy Elliott was so genuine.
