In 2016, Italian designers Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio decided to teamed up and create the fashion/lifestyle brand called "The Attico", which was inspired by classic peignoirs robes - expect lots of color, texture and embellishment.
‘Attico started around a specific item – the robe. Now we are showing the world around and inspired by it. We are narrating an aesthetic – Attico is more than just clothes, it’s a lifestyle. We are inspired by so many things. We love vintage design and antique furniture. We love certain movies from the 1960s and 1970s. Muses from different cities around the world. Muses from the past and women of the future. We are always inspired by these incredible women with great personality and style like Cher, Charlotte Rampling, Jerry Hall, Bianca Jagger or the actresses of the Hollywood golden era like Marlene Dietrich, Ginger Rogers and Lauren Bacall. It’s not something we can pinpoint. For us, inspiration comes always, from everywhere.’
I wanted to highlight this extremely talented designer called LaQuan Smith, who has been turning the fashion industry upside down with his stunning looks for over ten years now. Everyone from Lizzo, Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner, Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian West and Jennifer Lopez have worn his work, further showing what a big deal he is. He hails from New York City and officially launched his namesake brand back in 2013 and quickly caught the eye of many high-profile figures in the industry for his collections which celebrated the female form. "I didn’t even think of being a designer, I was just fascinated by women and well-tailored clothing." Saw this look from one of his recent catwalks and thought it would be dope to put together, a square neckline wool and leather puffed long sleeved corset top with halter neck tie. Volumed track pants with zipper detail and draw string waist band and invisible zippers at the ankle. Added these stunning black goat suede Roma boots from Balmain, that are detailed with gold-tone logo-engraved buttons and a fierce high heel. And also picked their black chocolate looking tote bag, that looks good enough to eat. It features calf leather, gold-tone hardware and detachable shoulder strap. Tied everything up with these oversize-frame black mask sunglasses from FENTY.
Black and bold.
Flexibility is key to stretching out a look that will fit different moments of your life, which is the mindset I went into putting together this look and it features black owned fashion businesses.
Outside her music empire and her extremely successful make-up line, Rihanna has been on fire in the fashion industry as well. Creating clothes for all sizes and shapes with her Fenty fashion line. So I had to kick off this look with her faux leather corset shirt dress, with contemporary update to it`s design. Featuring long sleeves, two chest flap pockets, curved hem and fitted waist. Added these black leather high boots in the mix, they are from Off-White and also selected these huge link drop earrings and this B-Buzz 23 tote bag both from Balmain.
